China has rich advantages in pig resources. Our preliminary work is mainly to cultivate pig species suitable for xenotransplantation of islets of Langerhans. Through screening in the first five years, we found that there are some special pig species in some closed areas with special topography and special climate in China, some of which have good potential of xenotransplantation donor, which is the mainstream of other xenotransplantation at present Advantages the country does not have. After 7 years of efforts, we have established inbred lines of donor pigs that are suitable for xenotransplantation of islets of Langerhans and meet the standards, with complete independent intellectual property rights. At the same time, we have established production bases of medical grade donor pigs that meet the standards of the World Health Organization and have independent intellectual property rights.
 
 
 
The most critical and important thing is that Professor Wang Wei's team, after more than ten years' efforts, has eliminated all the cross strain pathogens (including endogenous retrovirus (PERV) and the microorganisms designated by who and the International Association for xenotransplantation) between human and pig, as well as the self replication of PERV through the carefully cultivated inbred line pig (xeno-1) suitable for xenotransplantation And the possibility of gene recombination with related viruses solved a big doubt about the potential safety risks of xenotransplantation, which was an important breakthrough in the biological safety of xenotransplantation donor pigs.
